Joan  Bain

Savannah, Georgia - Joan Ayres Gardner Bain, died August 14, 2007 at Hospice Savannah, Inc after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Glenridge, New Jersey, daughter of the late George Southard and Bernice Getchius Gardner. She was a graduate of Montclair High School in Montclair, New Jersey. Prior to moving to Savannah in 1990 with her late husband, H.Y. “Bud” Bain, she resided in Glens Falls, NY and owned Glens Falls Travel and was also employed for many years with Hildreth Travel. Mrs. Bain was a travel specialist with Four Seasons Travel in Savannah, having marketed and escorted groups around the world. She was an active member of Skidaway Island United Methodist Church, the Landings Club and the Glens Falls Country Club. She was an avid golfer, bowler, reader and loved bingo.

Surviving are her children, David Mathis and his wife, Debra of Schuylerville, NY; Cynthia Delappa and her husband, Darwin of Queensbury, NY; Nancy Mathis Rodriguez of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; Stephen Mathis of Orlando, FL; sister, Susan Hunter of Philadelphia, PA; brothers, Peter Grieves and his wife, Donna and Donald Grieves all of Montclair, NJ; seven grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2007 at Skidaway Island United Methodist Church with the Reverend James W. Giddens, officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the church.
